BBC falls victim to spoof site

The BBC is investigating a possible breach of copyright after a fake version of its news website appeared on the internet.

The spoof site, which appeared on Wednesday, carried a false story announcing the suicide of the Hear'Say member, Suzanne Shaw.

It said she had been found dead in her North London home following recent revelations she had appeared in a home-made porn video.

In fact, Ms Shaw was on holiday.

"We're taking this matter very seriously as it was a complete breach of copyright," said a spokesman for the BBC. "We have to protect our copyright and integrity."

The spokesman refuted press reports that the culprits had hacked into the BBC's site.
