Platell quits over C4 diary

Amanda Platell, Mr Hague's head of news and media has quit.

It is believed she handed in her notice after a row erupted over a secret video diary programme she recorded for Channel 4.

Mr Hague did not know about her diary and Ms Platell left Central Office today after previously handing in her notice.

This is the second time Channel 4 has infiltrated the upper echelons of politics.

Before the election it secured a series of secret films from the campaign headquarters of the three parties.

Ms Platell indicated her intention to step down and pursue other interests shortly after the Tories' June 7 General Election defeat.

There was no immediate word on her successor.
