Royal Mail's famous "I saw this and thought of you" advertising could disappear as the company's £40m advertising spend and branding comes under review.
The former Lloyds TSB marketeer, Paul Troy, joins the Royal Mail in the newly created position of director of brand and communications.
Mr Troy will be responsible for Royal Mail's branding and advertising and takes up his post at the end of June.
"Paul will review the brand's strategy and advertising arrangements. He'll look at how it's done and see if anything needs changing," said a Royal Mail spokesman.
The last time the Royal Mail ad agency was reviewed, Bates UK beat off Saatchi & Saatchi to retain the account.
Lorna Clarkson, who was previously responsible for advertising, will become director of innovation.
Mr Troy will report to the consumer markets managing director, Gillian Wilmot, who joined from Littlewoods last year.
He last worked as global vice-president of marketing for mobile internet services company Sonera Zed, owned by Finnish telecoms company Sonera, but left in November.
Mr Troy previously headed the marketing team for Lloyds TSB's European internet bank, having held the position of brand communications director at the bank.
He also worked for Cadbury Schweppes as European brands director.
